Adding devices to MyGeotab
When Phillips Connect ships devices to a Geotab Customer, device IMEI numbers are provisioned or uploaded via bulk upload. The devices are issued Geotab serial numbers that are then displayed in the Sales Partner's MyAdmin portal; this process is called “device provisioning”. Once a device is provisioned, Geotab starts billing the Partner the monthly fee upon device activation.
After Phillips Connect upload and provisioning are complete, the Sales Partner receives an email from MyAdmin with an attached CSV file that includes the Geotab serial numbers and IMEI number for each Customer device.
As a final step, the Sales Partner must add the new devices to the Customer’s MyGeotab database. To do this, the Sales Partner logs into the Customer’s MyGeotab portal, navigates to the Vehicles & Assets page, clicks Add, then chooses whether to add a single device or use Quick Import to import a batch of devices.
Once the devices are added, they are displayed in the Customer’s MyGeotab site.
Adding a single device
To add a single device to MyGeotab, select Add asset, then enter the Geotab serial number assigned in the provisioning process above and a name (usually the assigned name of the asset that houses the device). As of MyGeotab 8.0, you must also choose an Asset Type for the device. By default, Vehicle and Trailer are available, however you may wish to create your own custom Asset Types. Refer to Where can I find the upcoming changes for trailers and vehicle information? on Geotab Community for more detail on Asset Types.
Importing a batch of devices
To import a batch of devices to MyGeotab, select Quick import, then paste in a list of Geotab serial numbers and, optionally, asset names and VINs in the specified formats.
Viewing assets in MyGeotab
Vehicles & Assets
Assets can be viewed in MyGeotab by navigating to the Vehicles & Assets page. Assets are listed in a table view with accompanying columns to display relevant data. Columns can be added or removed using the Columns dropdown.
Asset information can be added, changed, or viewed by clicking on the asset name. Assets can also be removed or archived from the Asset Edit view.
Map view and Tooltip Add-In
Assets can also be viewed in the Map view. This view displays a list of assets and their current location.
Geotab has developed a custom Map Add-in that brings additional asset tracker data into the tooltip hover box on the native Map page. You can hover over the asset to display the following additional information:
- Last device communication time
- Device battery level
- Device battery voltage
- Sensor status (if applicable)
The Tooltip Add-In provides more context about the health of the Phillips Connect device and status of components it is tracking.
Trip history
Trip history can be viewed by clicking on an asset, then selecting View Trips. You can also do this by navigating to the Trips History section on the Map view, selecting one or more assets, then clicking Show all trips. Users can customize their view by location, asset types, zones and run customized reports.
