Learn how to use the EV Charge Assurance Add-in to help ensure your EVs are charged and ready by proactively identifying vehicles that are potentially experiencing charging problems.
A Reference Guide for Users
Version 1.1.0
EV Charge Assurance helps ensure that your Electric Vehicles (EVs) are charged and ready each day by identifying vehicles that are potentially experiencing charging issues.
The dashboard checks specified vehicles during the monitoring period and displays warnings for any vehicle that may have a charging issue and won’t reach the specified battery level.
Each status contains information to help staff triage and address issues. Only vehicles in the selected zone(s) and vehicle group(s) are monitored.
! IMPORTANT: Vehicles must be fully supported for Charging Data from Geotab’s EV Model Support List.
If EV Charge Assurance is not already installed for your myGeotab database, log into your myGeotab account and navigate to the Geotab Marketplace to install it. Contact your myGeotab administrator if you need assistance.
Can’t find EV Charge Assurance? Check the following things:
When opening EV Charge Assurance for the first time, a prompt will be displayed to Set up your Dashboard.
Charging Zone(s)
The Dashboard only monitors vehicles inside this/these zone(s).
✱ NOTE: Choosing the Zone(s). Ensure that the charging zones for the EV Charge Assurance contain the charging stations and the parking lot where the EVs would park if they are not plugged in.
Selected zones for the Dashboard must have Indicate Stops within Zone set to Yes in the zone edit page in MyGeotab.
Vehicle Group(s)
The Dashboard only monitors vehicles that are part of this/these vehicle group(s).
✱ NOTE: Choosing the Group(s). Ensure that the vehicles in your group are the electric vehicles that will be charging at the zone(s) selected.
Full Battery Target (%)
The statuses are given based on whether the vehicle will be at this battery % by the end of the monitoring period.
Monitoring Start Time
Time that the monitoring starts based on the browser’s timezone.
Target Full Charge Time
Time that vehicles need to reach the Full Battery Target % by. Monitoring also ends at this time, based on the browser’s timezone.
✱ NOTE: Continuous Monitoring. If the Monitoring Start Time and Target Full Charge Time are set to be the same time, the EV Charge Assurance will continuously monitor the Dashboard.
Vehicle Not Charging (Alert Delay)
The amount of time a vehicle can be stopped and not charging inside a selected zone before the Orange status warning displays.
! IMPORTANT: 14 Day Logout. The MyGeotab portal automatically logs users out after 14 days, regardless of activity within the portal. This is a security protocol and cannot be adjusted or removed. You will need to relog back into MyGeotab when this happens to ensure the Dashboard continues to monitor vehicle charging.
The leftmost icon with the X symbol indicates that the vehicle will not make the target battery % by the end of the monitoring period. This is based on the max charge rate, determined using the vehicle’s historical specific max charge rates.
The middle icon with the ! symbol indicates that one of these conditions is true for the vehicle:
This is most likely because the vehicle hasn’t been plugged in or there is an issue with initiating the charging.
The rightmost icon with the ✓ symbol indicates that the vehicle is already at the target state of charge or given their current charge rate, will be ready by the specified Target Full Charge Time.
! IMPORTANT: Vehicles must have at least 5 significant charging sessions before all status thresholds can be considered.
The statuses on the EV Charge Assurance can be filtered to be only red, orange, or green vehicles shown on the Dashboard. Click the status to filter, and click again to deselect that filter. The blue square around the status indicates that only that specific status is displayed.
In this screenshot, the EV Charge Assurance is currently filtered to only display Orange Status vehicles.
This blue text will be displayed under the column Status for a vehicle with a red, orange or green status when it is not charging. The statement presents the time passed since the vehicle's last stop or since the vehicle’s last charge session, whichever came later.
This blue text will be displayed with a red, orange, or green status under the column, Estimated battery % at 00:00 AM/PM, when a vehicle will reach 100% at a time earlier or later than the Full Charge Time Target.
✱ NOTE: This Dashboard indicator will only show up if the vehicle is currently charging.
The monitoring window displays the time until the monitoring period starts or the time left until the monitoring window ends. For last mile delivery fleets, the monitoring period is typically set to end around when the first routes start.
✱ NOTE: Continuous Monitoring. If the Monitoring Start Time and Target Full Charge Time are set to be the same time, the EV Charge Assurance will continuously monitor the Dashboard.
The “Unknown” tag is displayed when a vehicle does not have sufficient historic charging data to precisely calculate some of the dependencies for the alerts. These will go away as the vehicle performs more charging sessions.
