Using advanced analytics techniques, the Data and Analytics Research team has developed a model capable of detecting collisions when they happen to present critical information on point of impact and magnitude. This allows you to monitor, act, and take measures to mitigate future collisions.
The Enhanced Accelerometer Experiment Add-In uses an improved accelerometer threshold to detect potential collisions, and captures feedback from users to achieve enhanced accuracy and precision in collision detection.
The Enhanced Accelerometer Experiment page includes the following features:
To access the Enhanced Accelerometer Experiment Add-In, follow these steps:
The Enhanced Accelerometer Experiment page is displayed.
You can now access the Enhanced Accelerometer Experiment Add-In via Dashboards & Analytics > Enhanced Accelerometer Experiment.
The Enhanced Accelerometer Experiment Add-In is designed to detect when a vehicle’s accelerometer reaches a magnitude of 1.5g and over. When this is detected, an event is recorded for your review.
You can use filters to narrow down the list of recorded acceleration events.
To narrow down the list of recorded acceleration events, follow these steps.
✱ NOTE: Select More to open filters if it’s not displayed.
✱ NOTE: Select View all events to view a list of all potential collisions.
The list of recorded acceleration events updates based on your filter selections.
✱ NOTE: You can use Sort to sort the list by Name, and Date.
By default, the Enhanced Accelerometer Experiment page displays a list of all detected collisions.
The following information is displayed on the Action Needed and Reviewed tabs.
Label | Description |
Vehicle Name | Displays the name of the vehicle as configured on the Vehicles & Assets page. Also displays the VIN and Vehicle Groups, if applicable. |
Date and Time | Displays the date and time when the recorded acceleration event was identified in Eastern Standard Time (EST). |
Event Address | Displays the address or city where the recorded acceleration event was detected. |
Impact | Displays where the collision impact was detected on the vehicle, if applicable. |
Collision Occurred (Yes/No) | On the Action Needed tab, this column displays the following buttons:
On the Reviewed tab, this column displays the feedback you previously submitted on the Action Needed tab. You can select Edit to provide additional information. |
By default, the Action Needed tab displays vehicles that have met the accelerometer threshold to be a potential collision, and require your feedback. A number is also displayed next to Action Needed to show you how many recorded acceleration events require your feedback.
To find detected collisions within a specific time period, refer to Finding recorded acceleration events.
To provide feedback for recorded acceleration, follow these steps:
✱ NOTE: Select More to open filters if it’s not displayed.
✱ NOTE: Select View all events to view a list of all potential collisions.
The list of recorded acceleration events updates based on your filter selections.
✱ NOTE: You can use Sort to sort the list by Name, and Date.
You have successfully provided feedback on a recorded acceleration event.
When an event has been reviewed, it will be displayed in the Reviewed tab.
The Reviewed tab displays a list of recorded acceleration events that you have previously submitted feedback on. In this tab, you can provide additional information about the event.
To provide more details for an event, follow these steps:
A list of recorded acceleration events you previously provided feedback on is displayed.
✱ NOTE: Select More to open filters if it’s not displayed.
The list of recorded acceleration events updates based on your filter selections.
✱ NOTE: You can use Sort to sort the list by Vehicle Name, and Date.
The Add or Edit Collision Details popup window is displayed.
You have successfully provided additional information on a recorded acceleration event.
Use Finding recorded acceleration events to narrow down the list of recorded acceleration events, then select the Vehicle Name.
The page refreshes to provide more details on the selected vehicle’s recorded acceleration event and a map view of where the recorded acceleration event was detected.
Use Center on map to move the map back to the location where the vehicle collision was detected, or Back to return to the Enhanced Accelerometer Experiment page.
✱ NOTE: The Review and confirm button is only displayed when details are accessed from the Action Needed tab.
✱ NOTE: The Add or edit collision details button is only displayed when details are accessed from the Reviewed tab.
The Manually Reported tab displays a list of manually reported collisions submitted through the Report a collision button. Refer to Reporting a collision manually for more information.
The following information is displayed on the Manually Reported tab.
Column | Description |
Vehicle VIN | Displays the vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle in the reported collision, based on the Manual Collision Report. |
Date and Time | Displays the date and time of the collision, based on the Manual Collision Report. |
Event Address | Displays the address or city where the collision occurred, based on the submitted Manual Collision Report. |
Cost | Displays cost of damages based on the submitted Manual Collision Report, if applicable. |
Impact | Displays the location of the collision impact, based on the submitted Manual Collision Report, if applicable. |
Actions | Displays the following buttons:
|
The Enhanced Accelerometer Add-In allows you to manually report or capture a collision, in the event that it does not meet the criteria to be added automatically.
To report a collision manually, follow these steps:
The Manual Collision Report popup window is displayed.
You have successfully reported a collision manually. The collision is displayed under the Manually Reported tab.
The Activity Summary side panel provides a quick overview of event activity and key metrics.
✱ NOTE: Select Metrics to open the Activity Summary panel. Close the panel by selecting X.
The Probable Collision Events Detected section shows the number of recorded acceleration events that have been detected, including reviewed events:
The Probable Collision Events Reviewed section shows the number of recorded acceleration events that have been reviewed by Administrators.
The Overall Accuracy of Model section shows the percentage of events that were correctly identified as true positives or true negatives from the total number of detected events.
The Top Five Cities or Towns section shows the highest total number of probable collision events in the displayed cities and/or towns, and the number of recorded acceleration events for each corresponding city or town.
