Ethernet

Ethernet networks in vehicles allow certain vehicle systems to transmit larger amounts of data at faster speeds compared to CAN networks.

As of 2023, select vehicle diagnostics are primarily available through the Diagnostics over Internet Protocol (DoIP) using Ethernet networks rather than traditional CAN networks.

Currently, the 16-pin T-harness (HRN-BM16T22) has the 2-pin Molex connectors for Ethernet (pins 3 and 11) connected by default for most vehicles. Select vehicles may require an Ethernet bypass. For an Ethernet bypass, disconnect the 2-pin Molex connectors attached to the 16-pin T-harness (HRN-BM16T22). Failure to disconnect the Molex connector may result in issues when performing non-Geotab software updates. The table below specifies the vehicles that require an Ethernet bypass.
